Comparing non-linear mathematical models to describe growth of different animals

چکیده
The main objective of this study was to compare the goodness of fit of five non-linear growth models, i.e. Brody, Gompertz, Logistic, Richards and von Bertalanffy in different animals. It also aimed to evaluate the influence of the shape parameter on the growth curve. To accomplish this task, published growth data of 14 different groups of animals were used and four goodness of fit statistics were adopted: coefficient of determination (R), root mean square error (RMSE), Akaike information criterion (AIC) and Bayesian information criterion (BIC). In general, the Richards growth equation provided better fits to experimental data than the other models. However, for some animals, different models exhibited better performance. It was obtained a possible interpretation for the shape parameter, in such a way that can provide useful insights to predict animal growth behavior.

Evaluation of Non- linear Growth Curves Models for Native Slow-growing Khazak Chickens
Native poultry is a valuable genetic source with high resistance against diseases providing an important subject for breeding programs. The non-linear mathematical modeling of the growth pattern may partly explain the relationship between requirements and body weight to precise feeding that plays a vital role in the animal enterprises. A study was conducted to compare five non-linear models inc...

Most models developed for poultry are linear to the point where genetic potential is reached. Models reliant on the premise that growth rate determines requirements based on some fixed rate of nutrient utilization do not adequately represent the biological phenomena involved. Therefore, a dichotomy between the accepted theories of nutrient utilization in animals and the assumptions of mathemati...

This study was conducted to compare some nonlinear functions to describe the broiler growth curve of the Cobb500 strain. A flock of fifty one-day-old chicks were randomly selected from a henhouse of 2500 chicks. Our goal was to establish a growth curve using weighting data using mathematical solutions of time-dependent differential functions. In total, six equations were subjected to a statisti...

The kinetic study of methylene blue (MB) adsorption using acid-activated spent tea (AAST) as an adsorbent from aqueous solution with the aim of comparing linear and non-linear regression analysis methods was performed at varying initial MB concentrations (10-100 mg/l). Hence, spent tea leaves, which were activated using concentrated sulfuric acid, were prepared. The physicochemical characterist...
